Permanent Makeup
Eyebrows Eyeliner, Lip blush
There are questions and answers below where you should find everything you need to know about the procedures. No fluffiness, just the facts! You can also read about my personal experience of having my eyebrows and eyeliner tattooed.
Permanent Makeup Explained
There are two methods of permanent makeup application;
Cosmetic tattooing and Microblading. Both are with semi permanent ink.
METHODS
Cosmetic tattooing; Is the method used for powder brows, hair stroke brows, eyeliner and lip blush. A cosmetic tattooing machine and semi permanent ink (I use vegan friendly) is used for this procedure. It lasts upto 3 years in the skin, generally clients have a top up between 12-18 months to keep the colour fresh. The area is numbed prior to the treatment. First treatment time is 2 hours and top up treatment is 1 hour.
Microblading; (I am qualified but no longer offer this procedure as I much prefer the results of cosmetic tattooing, I can create hair strokes this way which last longer).
This method is with a hand tool with a small blade, implementing ink into the skin, the method is to create very fine hair stokes to form an eyebrow. It lasts 6-9 months before requiring a top up. The area unfortunately can’t be pre-numbed before the procedure, it can only be numbed after the first initial pass over the skin as the numbing cream changes the texture of the skin and makes it very difficult to make an accurate hair stroke. I also prefer being able to numb my clients skin and for it to be a comfortable experience.
Q & A's
Q. Does this procedure hurt?
A. I use a topical anaesthetic at the start of your visit or I provide you with numbing cream to apply prior to arriving if you are particularly concerned about pain. Once the area is numb you will not feel the procedure.
Q. Is the procedure permanent?
A. You will see lots of semi permanent makeup businesses refer to it as permanent makeup up. The term permanent is used to imply that you won’t need to apply and remove your makeup daily. Eyebrows, eyeliner and lip colour do not stay on the skin permanently. They last up to 3 years. The application is not as deep as a regular tattoo and permanent ink is not used. The inks and application is different when done for a for cosmetic procedure.
Q.What if I don’t like my result, can I remove it?
A. If you come to me you will love your semi permanent makeup! I will make sure of it! I do not go ahead with the cosmetic tattooing until you have agreed you are 100% happy with what I have pre drawn on your skin. The ink fades in the skin after your first visit by 40% and if you don’t have the second part of the procedure the ink will continue to fade and it won’t hold in your skin.
Q. I’m not sure about the colour and thickness I want my eyebrows or eyeliner.
A. I use high quality inks which are all premixed for every skin tone and hair colour so it’s very easy to select the correct shade. If you are unsure how dark you want to go then I will always use a lighter shade on your first visit for you to get use to while you heal. Most people end up going slightly darker when they are used to their new brows but I always say it’s best to do gradually if you aren’t sure. The same applies to eyebrow thickness. You can start off with a slimmer version and then add to on your second visit (top up) For eyeliner it’s usually black ink which is requested and again I can do as thin or thick line as wanted. There is no rushing this process. I will do to suit you so you are happy and get the result you desire.
Q. Is it expensive to maintain semi permanent?
A. No is the simply answer, it’s affordable. Once you have been for your initial appointments. If you return to me for a colour boost top up, you only pay top up price, as I’m enhancing the colour and not doing from scratch. Click for my price list Prices
Q. I’m not sure I can’t make up my mind if it’s right for me?
A. Semi permanent makeup is suitable for all ages and all skin types. There are no limits. If you want it have it! You will either be a client who confidently applies makeup daily and is fed up of the time it takes, so you have decided to have it tattooed on or you are the opposite and aren’t confident applying makeup and have tried using a zillion eyebrow pencils and eyeliners, watched endless YouTube tutorials and you just can’t ever get it right. My Experience
I love my semi permanent makeup!! It 100% did not hurt me…. and yes I was so nervous!
I first had cosmetic tattooing on my eyebrows in 2012 when it wasn’t really that popular and I only knew a few people who had the procedure done. I was really pleased with them, the style was very different then, the look was outlined and a block of colour, but that was the fashion at the time. There were also very limited ink colours to choose from so the colour then isn’t what I have to date. Now eyebrow styles are softer and a powder effect and the colour range is so wide and the knowledge semi permanent makeup artists have on the inks is so much more advanced. Over the years I’ve tattooed my own brows (sounds crazy I know!) but recently I went to my teacher in London who taught me advanced powder brows skills and she topped them up for me and reshaped in a powder effect. At the same time I had my top eyeliner done which I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with. I do eyeliner for lots of clients but there hasn’t been anyone I’ve trusted to do mine until now. Over the past couple of years my eyelids have started to drop, the one thing I hate about ageing! Every time I was applying liquid eyeliner after an hour or so it would be above my eyelid and a smudged mess! So a complete waste of time applying. Now though it’s great I wake up with my eyeliner on and I don’t have to remove it everyday. My eyes also look much brighter, I’m just so chuffed with it and wish I had met my teacher years ago! I didn’t feel any discomfort from either procedure, the areas were completely numb.
I have lots of tattoos, but I am a wimp, I worry before hand about the pain, its only natural. Who wants to experience any pain! Semi permanent makeup isn’t the same as a normal tattoo though. The needle doesn’t go as deep and at the same speed of implementation. The machine is used on a much lower speed making the impact softer. So if you are tattooed, the comparison is a fraction of the feeling.
